Striking and highly detailed fine unusual
1736 Isaac Tirion's copper engraved map
including eastern Turkey, the Caucasus, Israel through Iraq, with a part of Arabia. From the Black to the Caspian Seas and from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf, the area extends south into the Arabian Desert and locates Cyprus, Baghdad, Damascus, Baku, and many more cities in the region. Today's Iraq is made up of several named regions including Irakarabi, Irak Arabi, Turcomania and Kurdistan to name a few. A fascinating map that will reward further study. Typical for Tirion, the title is a simple block-style cartouche. Three distance scales are below

Very strong and dark impression on good paper. Paper with chains and wiremarks. Map uncolored. Margin to the top missing. Small lower margin. Short right lateral margin. Quite left lateral margin partially missing to the bottom. Corners partially missing. Small foxing. Small tears. Map folded. Conditions are as you can see in the images

I
saak Tirion (1705 - 1765) was a Dutch publisher in Amsterdam. Born in Utrecht, Tirion quickly rose to prominence by publishing pamphlets, historical works, and most importantly, maps and atlases. He produced several atlases and Dutch town plans. His maps are mainly based on those of Guillaume de l'Isle. Tirion eventually relocated his printing house to the prestigious Kalverstraat. In his long career, he produced eight atlases in multiple editions, some of which were published posthumously until about 1784
.
