Original 1541 antique woodblock Ptolemaic map titled
Tabula Septima Asiae Complectitur Margianam, Bactriniam, Sogdianam, Sacas, & Scythiam intra Imaum montem.
It depicts the region north and east of the Caspian Sea in a trapezoidal projection, reduced from Martin Waldseemüller's map, with a small illustration of a king in the Caspian Sea.
The image area of the map measures 47 x 34.2 cm [18½" x 13½"], and the map's title is on the verso, along with letterpress text, in Latin.
The text is by Michael Villanovus, better known as Servetus, who was tried for heresy in 1553 and burned at the stake along with some of his books, including copies of the atlas in which this map appeared.
Condition:
This map is in very good condition, with a vertical fold, as issued, and some faint spotting. Minor paper loss in the margins has been professionally restored. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
