    Description

For your consideration: a THREE PIECE LOT of fruit jar / food bottles.  These were recovered in Philadelphia privy excavations over the last few years.  They are all in very good condition with no damage at all.  Light ground wear and frostiness.  The bluish aqua example is a wide mouth preserves jar undoubtedly.  Two-part mold with double ring in the mold around the shoulder.   Rolled lip with concentric tooling marks.  The base shows an offset circular artifact - likely a snapcase depression.  Late 1850's - early 1860's.  It measures: 5 " x 2 7/8".  The clear example was blown in a two-part mold and finished with an over-blown tooled ring lip.  1870's likely manufacture.  A gherkin or caper?  Nice smoky, nearly amethyst-tinged decolorized glass batch.  Many micro-bubbles scatttered throughout the glass.  Crude lip application with evident concentric tooling rings.  It measures: 6 5/8" x 2 1/2".  The short squatty example was two-part mold blown with an applied radius collar.  Blown in light greenish glass batch, possibly English.  Double rib shoulder molded.  "889" -mold code embossed on the base.  Mild ground wear and scuffing.  It measures: 5 1/2" x 2 7/8"+.
